I hate cole slaw too. But they made it completely different from any other cole slaw, it even looked different. The year before they went out of business a new owner purchassed it. They tried to get all "hoity toity" and "high class" the menu. They brought in new cooks and everything. Several years before they had won the annual "Rib Fest" that we have here every year. But the new owner took the ribs off the menu - too low class or whatever. We left without ordering and never went back. Less than a year later the place went out of business. Moral of the story, if you buy a restaurant, dont take the best thing they made off the menu! close(-)

There have been similar stories of predators doing the unexpected and taking care of other animals.
This kind of thing gets my brain-juices flowing. (For good or ill...) I mean, what was the thought process actually taking place here? This appears to be more than just simple responses and so-called "instinct." Animals aren't exactly "stupid." I don't think the animal believed him to be her seal pup. However, I do think it's possible that some sort of mothering instinct could have affected her behavior. There are cases where animals have apparently adopted a surrogate for a dead or missing youngster. Heck, there are cases where animals have adopted surrogate mates. That's one reason why you don't give sexually active dogs stuffed animals... (Unless you particularly enjoy cleaning stuffed animals...) But, anyway, what exactly was going through this animal's mind when it continued trying to "instruct" the photographer?

Even IF the animal was reacting to some mothering instinct that demanded a surrogate, doesn't this shed some light on the possibility that things we consider "instinct" may not be so rigidly defined?

Why does everything a higher mammal does have to be considered "instinct"? They do have brains and are capable of thought. Other mammals have often helped humans in trouble in the water - dolphins often help humans, its been documented numerous times. Did you ever think that this seal simply wanted to be friends? For reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with instinct. close(-)

I must agree that it is becomming a little too much like a soap opera. But I'm going to keep watching for at least a few more episodes. There is bound to be an external enemy, as I said before, where else would the battle damage come from? And what was that alien ship that departed the Destiny at the end of the second episode? The focus should change soon froom thier battle to simply survive to more of a real battle against an outside enemy. Thankfully, they've figured out how to fire the guns! And the ship seems to have a lot of guns, too... close(-)

My favorite SciFi spaceship was the original Battlestar Galactica. One look told you exactly what that ship was made for - Battle! The newer versions of the Galactica and the Pegasus were ok. I also thought the original versions of the Cylon base ships were more practical than the new versions. IMO, the originals were more like what a species of robots would build, rather than the flimsy, snowflake newer design.

The Saratoga was cool, too.

As for the above picture, the Enterprise D would win hands down! Two or three torpedoes and that Star Destroyer would be an expanding ball of space dust. close(-)
